St Louis Blues Bring Back 90s Trumpet Uniforms for Three in 2020

If you’re going to make a return after a quarter-century, you’d better make a memorable entrance. So here’s the 1990s storming back to the sports uniform landscape with an appropriate literal fanfare ♫

The St. Louis Blues this past weekend announced they would be bringing back their infamous royal blue uniform, worn originally from 1995-1998, complete with five diagonal gold stripes, a giagantic red splotch in the bottom left, a trumpet on each shoulder, and altered player numbers to fit within the unique striping template.

“Who is that, an expansion team??” Overheard in my house the first time we saw a highlight package featuring the then-new St. Louis Blues uniforms watching TSN’s SportsDesk back in 1995. Uniform coverage back in those days was not quite how it is now, often you didn’t know about a new uniform from a team playing outside your region until you watched them in a game.

Fans were not happy when these uniforms were first introduced in 1994

This is one uniform I honestly never thought we’d see again, but as with most uniforms that were universally hated upon their original run, hey, we suddenly love them now. Maybe time heals all wounds? Memories are always warm and fuzzy? Either way, here I am part of that choir, glad to welcome back the St. Louis Blues and their awful mid-90s “trumpet” uniform… but only for a few games here and there, and that’s exactly what we’re getting here in 2019-20.

Very good.

St. Louis will be bringing back the uniform, originally worn by the likes of Wayne Gretzky, Brett Hull, Al MacInnis, Dale Hawerchuk, and Grant Fuhr for three home games this season — November 21 vs Calgary Flames, February 27th against the New York Islanders, and March 31st against Detroit.
