Dallas Stars Show Logo for 2020 Winter Classic

The Dallas Stars will be digging deep into the heart of Texas hockey history for their 2020 Winter Classic uniform.

Unveiled today at the end of a video posted to their social media, the logo is a modified version of the old Dallas Texans team logo. The Texans played in the American Hockey Association in 1941-42 and then later the United States Hockey League from 1945-49.

The Stars 2020 Winter Classic logo uses the same big “D” we see in the Texans logo with “STARS” written across the front (rather than “Texans”), the “A” in “STARS” has been replaced with a star.

The video did not show any colour other than white for the logo (see photo at the top of this post) which leads me to believe the team will be wearing dark uniforms with the crest in white for the game.

Though hard to see in the black and white photo above, the Texans uniform included a star on the sleeve stripe which seems like an obvious and easy element for the Stars to include on their Winter Classic jersey, yet to be unveiled.

The Stars opponent in the game will be the Nashville Predators and with Dallas dipping back to their minor hockey past this could perhaps give us a clue into the direction Nashville will go in.

Nashville was home to several minor hockey teams over the years, the Dixie Flyers could be an option, but there’s one that would work *very well* for a game played in Dallas. The Nashville South Stars.

Yes, they were a farm team of the then Minnesota North Stars.

Twitter user @jbrolley_design took this stab at what the uniform matchup for this game could be several months ago and pretty much nailed it for the Stars. A design based off the Dixie Flyers was used here for Nashville:
