The Charlotte Hornets yesterday unveiled a new purple Statement uniform at their annual Media Day.
With the team’s official abbreviation “CHA” across the chest in white, the uniform features teal striping around the collar and arms, as well as two stripes down each side that both come to a point resembling the stinger of a hornet.
This side stripe style comes back on the shorts but in reverse, starting from the bottom of the leg and pointing up where it meets a teal silhouette of the Hornets logo. The Hornets logo is also added to the waistband of the shorts.
“We really wanted to give our fans something different without going too far away from some of the strong parts of our brand,” Hornets Senior VP of Consumer Engagement Seth Bennett said in the press release. “The Statement uniform is intended to be something that speaks on behalf of our players. It sets the tone of being bold, being strong. Purple itself is a color of royalty and honor and we definitely see this speaking to the basketball royalty across the state. I definitely think fans will enjoy the new design.”
The new uniform replaces the Hornets purple “Statement” uniform worn last season, as already announced earlier in the off-season the Hornets will be wearing a purple throwback “Classic” edition uniform this year as well.
This uniform will be worn sixteen times during the 2019-20 season, making their debut for the Hornets season opener at home against the Chicago Bulls on October 23rd.
