The Arizona Cardinals have added a memorial decal to the back of their helmets in memory of the owner of the team.
William V. “Bill” Bidwill, owner of the Cardinals for nearly 60 years, died earlier this month on October 2 at the age of 88. He inherited the team along with his brother from his mother in 1962 shortly after the franchise relocated from Chicago to St. Louis. Bidwill took over as sole owner of the Cardinals in 1972 and relocated the team to Phoenix in 1988.
In honour of the memory of Bill Bidwill, the Cardinals have begun wearing a black decal with Bidwill’s initials WVB in white above Bidwill’s trademark red bowtie. The decal made its in-game debut this past Sunday during the Cardinals game on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals.
