Rutgers’ athletic programs have outfitted by adidas since the 2017-18 academic year, but the men’s basketball program on Wednesday evening unveiled new uniforms that — interestingly enough — use a key design element first introduced by Nike.
The uniforms themselves — which come in home white, road scarlet and black alternate iterations — are much simple than the Scarlet Knights’ previous set, removing the contrasting color from the shoulders and stripes at the bottom of the sorts. But the design is accented by a chainmail pattern on the sides that was actually part of Nike’s program-wide rebrand in 2016.
Rutgers surely holds the rights to use such design elements at its own discretion. However, it’s still odd to see said design used by both manufactures.
The Scarlet Knights open the 2019-20 season against Bryant on Nov. 7. Check out more photos of their new uniforms below.
