With Nike becoming the Major League Baseball’s official outfitter beginning with the 2020 season, the Arizona Diamondbacks have used the opportunity to update their existing uniform set.
The Diamondbacks’ new uniforms aren’t a complete overhaul of their existing set, but do remove two of the more notable elements from the 2016 rebrand. That includes the snakeskin gradient pattern on the shoulders, as well as the dark gray sets that were a dramatic shift from the rest of the league’s light gray road looks.
This is the second time Arizona has scaled back the snakeskin pattern, as it was prominently displayed on the cap and bottom of the pant legs until the franchise ditched the look after just one season.
There is also now a Nike Swoosh on the chest of the Diamondbacks’ uniforms, something that will be standard across the MLB moving forward. The previous manufacturer, Majectic, placed its logo on the left sleeve, meanwhile.
Beyond that, Arizona’ overall uniform design remains intact, including the team’s logos, font and color schemes (Sedona Red, Sand and Black on the primary uniforms and Teal, Sedona Red and Black on the alternates). The team will only have one true uniform set, as well, having ditched the teal-heavy road look altogether.
The Diamondbacks have also reintroduced their Spanish Heritage uniforms, incorporating teal into the look this time around. The jersey says “Los D-Backs” across the chest, though one could argue “Diamantes” would have been more appropriate.
