The Vancouver Grizzlies are back tonight! And will re-appear again a total of 14 times throughout the 2019-20 season. For this evening’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers at FedExForum in Memphis, the Grizzlies will wear these classic teal Vancouver road uniforms for the first time since their original run from 1995 until 2000.
It’s all being done in honour of the 25th season for the Vancouver / Memphis Grizzlies franchise, which began play in Vancouver in 1995 before relocating to Memphis, taking the name and logos with them, in 2001.
“This season’s Vancouver Classic Edition uniforms will not only feature the iconic ‘teal’ base, but it will also stay true to its classic design with the native Canadian Pacific Northwest pattern outlining the uniform”, the Memphis Grizzlies press release read when the uniforms were first unveiled during the Summer. “The original Grizzlies wordmark will be displayed across the chest while the Grizzlies’ first iconic bear logo sits on the leg of the shorts.”
A special commemorative court design will also be used with the throwback uniform, one which incorporates different court designs throughout the 25-season history of the Grizzlies franchise.
As mentioned earlier, the Grizzlies will wear the throwbacks 14 times this season, tonight’s the first, here’s the full schedule:
