The Coastal Plain League will have a new team at the dish in 2020, and it’s coming in extra spicy.
Playing their home games at Colonial Heights, Virginia, the Tri-City Chili Peppers are joining the independent wood bat, collegiate summer Coastal Plain League in time for next season. The Chili Peppers will be the fifteenth team in the league which has clubs in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.
The name, chosen as a result of a name-the-team contest, was announced last month topping out a list of finalists which included Cucumbers, Nitty Gritties, Tacos & Triceratops.
Designed by Skye Design Studios, the logo features three chili peppers demonstrating the fundamentals of the game of baseball, the yellow pepper is throwing, the green catching, and the red taking a hefty cut right in the middle.
“The name ‘Tri-City’ enabled us to leverage the concept of community into the identity,” Skye Dillon of Skye Designs Studios told CoastalPlain.com. “Three cities, three peppers – each with its own unique look, all part of the same team. It tells a story of unity, teamwork, and diversity. And most of all, it’s fun.”
The primary logo features all three peppers in a roundel with the team name around and a couple of flames added in, each of the peppers can also be broken out on their own to be used as secondary logos.
Tri-City will start its inaugural season in the Coastal Plain League on May 28, 2020; the season concludes with the Petitt Cup Championship round from August 6th – 8th.
