VOTE NOW: 2019 Creamer Awards, the Best Sports Logos of the Year

As we wind down another year here at SportsLogos.Net, it’s time once again to take a moment to celebrate the best of the best logos to join the sports world over these past twelve months in what I not-so-shamelessly-but-still-sometimes-I-wonder-if-I-should refer to as the Creamer Awards.

To be eligible for a 2019 Creamer Award, a logo must have made its *in-game debut* between January 1 and December 31, 2019. So if you’re looking for those brand new Milwaukee Brewers logos? Sorry pal, they make their in-game debut on March 26, 2020… you’ll have to come back next year!

In years past, we’ve determined the winners by holding a vote amongst a panel of a dozen of my favourite sportswriters and personalities from all across North America. This year we’re going to give our hardworking judges some time off and try something a little different, yes folks, this year it’s all up to you, the loyal readers of SportsLogos.Net, to decide the winners. No pressure!

Below you’ll see the ten finalists in each of three categories, Best New Primary Logo, Best New Secondary Logo, and Best New Event Logo. The ten finalists were all determined using the logo rating feature on every logo page throughout the site, throughout the year users of this site have been able to rate any logo they see on a scale of 1 to 10 — we’ve taken the ten new logos which rated the highest and present them for you here and now to decide who will win the coveted 2019 Creamer Award in their category.

You can vote once in each category every twenty-four hours, voting ends at 11:59pm ET on Saturday, December 21, 2019 and the final results will be announced on Monday, December 23rd.

Don’t forget to vote in all three categories, all are listed on this page. Let’s begin!

2019 CREAMER AWARDS
BEST PRIMARY LOGO

It’s not often a team is up for an award several months following their death but here in 2019 we have THREE such teams. That’s thanks to the Alliance of American Football, who during their brief window of life were still able to churn out some top-notch logos courtesy designer Joe Bosack. Bosack designed the logos of the entire AAF including three Best Primary Logo nominees: the Orlando Apollos, Arizona Hotshots, and San Diego Fleet.

Four colleges crack the top ten with two from the team at Torch Creative, the SIU Salukis and LIU Sharks, along with the Kansas City Roos who were designed by Old Hat Creative and the Idaho State Bengals.

Another crack at the Miami Marlins as well as an updated Philadelphia Phillies make up the only two “Big Four” entries in our top ten, the Montreal Alouettes bold re-design led by the GRDN branding agency.

2019 CREAMER AWARDS
BEST SECONDARY LOGO

So, blue and yellow was the colour scheme of the year? The Pitt Panthers brought back their classic colours along with a new secondary logo featuring a panther head. In Kansas City, the UMKC Kangaroos rebranded as the Kansas City Roos as they introduced their new logo set. In the NBA, the Golden State Warriors moved across The Bay to San Francisco creating an alternate logo chronicling that journey, and in the junior Ontario Hockey League a new alternate logo greeted the Erie Otters as they switched to their new colours.

In non-blue/yellow nominees, we’ve got the Miami Marlins logo featuring the new marlin wrapped around an M, a trio of Brandiose specials across the Minors with the Fresno Grizzlies, Amarillo Sod Poodles and Traverse City Pit Spitters (they play in Michigan, hence the logo), are joined by RARE Design’s Nashville Sounds. Finishing off the top ten is the new alternate logo of the LMU Lions.

2019 CREAMER AWARDS
BEST EVENT LOGO

The National Hockey League rarely disappoints with their event logos and that’s reflected in 2019 with the nominations of both the Notre Dame hosted Winter Classic and the always strong NHL Draft logo, this year hosted by the City of Vancouver. Major League Baseball also contributes two with the rock ‘n roll themed, Cleveland-hosted, All-Star Game logo along with the colourful rainbow-esque gradient-filled World Series logo, each colour representing a team who had a shot at winning the championship.

Across the pond, the Kontinental Hockey League’s All-Star Game, hosted by Tatarstan and featuring a tulip – a common symbol for the region. In soccer, the UAE-hosted 2019 AFC Asian Cup got a nod.

Back in North American, the Alliance of American Football collected another posthumous nomination for their never-played championship game (which tiptoes the eligibility lines here but I’m going to allow it), joined by the California League’s All-Star Game in San Bernardino, as well as the WNBA’s 2019 All-Star Game from Las Vegas.
