2020 NHL All-Star Jerseys Unveiled

The National Hockey League and Adidas this afternoon unveiled the jerseys that will be worn for the 2020 NHL All-Star Game to be held in St. Louis later this month.

Like last year, the jerseys are dark grey and white. Players will wear their own team’s logo on their jersey rather than the NHL shield as it was previously. Unlike last year, the logos will at least have some colour to them, reduced to single colour versions of each displayed in each club’s primary team colour.

The design features a musical staff along the front and the jerseys in a bit of a nod to the St Louis Blues jersey of the mid-to-late 1990s, those jerseys featured diagonal staff striping near the waist of the jersey.

Striping is silver, inspired by the Gateway Arch. The Arch appears again in the inside back collar. A patch featuring the 2020 NHL All-Star Game logo is on the stripes on the right arm near the elbow.

Each team will have a grey and a white version of the jersey, as this is a tournament there’s always the possibility that both teams in white or in grey will end up meeting in the final requiring one to switch to the other. Both sets are ready and available just in case.

Players will wear these jerseys during the actual All-Star Game only, they’ll wear their usual team uniforms for the NHL Skills Competition held one day prior.

Why the team logo instead of the shield? My thought is this makes the jersey an easier sell to fans — are you more likely to buy a jersey with your team’s logo on it or the NHL shield? I prefer seeing the NHL shield, but I’m more of a traditionalist with these things.

The 2020 NHL All-Star Game will be played on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at St. Louis.
