Purdue Boilermakers To Wear Tyler Trent-Inspired Hammer Down Cancer Alternate Uniforms

As part of its annual Hammer Down Cancer game, the Purdue men’s basketball team will wear alternate uniforms against Wisconsin on Jan. 24 that posthumously celebrate the life of Tyler Trent — a former Purdue student and superfan who died last year at age 20 following a lengthy battle with a rare bone cancer called osteosarcoma.

This marks the second consecutive year the Boilermakers will wear black Nike uniforms that feature a neon yellow Purdue wordmark and numbers outlined in gray, the former being the color chosen by the Purdue Center for Cancer Research to “represent cancer survivors and fighters of all types of cancer.” That said, the first iteration had a striping pattern down the sides that has been removed this time around in favor of a simple contrasting collar.

The jersey is complete with Trent’s signature, “T2,” displayed above the Big Ten patch on the left shoulder, as well as the university’s Hammer Down Cancer logo above the numbers on the back of the jersey.

Each player will also wear a special shooting shirt that fans can bid on leading up to the game. The black shooting shirt features the Hammer Down Cancer logo on the front, while the winning bidder will have the opportunity to provide a custom message that will be printed on the back.

Previous examples include “In memory of…,” “Keep fighting…,” “We are all #TylerStrong,” etc.

The jerseys and shooting shirts will be auctioned off following the game, with all proceeds going toward the Tyler Trent Endowment Fund at the Purdue Center for Cancer Research. The shooting shirt auction ends Jan. 13 at 11:59 p.m. ET and the jersey auction ends on Jan. 24 at 2 p.m ET.
