The Colorado men’s basketball program will celebrate its last regular season conference title by wearing throwback uniforms against Utah on Jan. 12 (6 p.m. ET on ESPNU).
The Buffaloes are honoring late coach Russell “Sox” Walseth during the game and inviting several of his former players to attend the celebration. He is Colorado’s all-time leader in wins, guiding the Buffaloes to a 261-245 record from 1956-76.
Walseth led Colorado to three Big Eight Conference titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances in 1961-62, 1962-63 and 1968-69. The Buffaloes have not won a regular conference title since, though they did win the Pac-12 Conference Tournament in 2011-12.
Walseth also coached the women’s basketball team from 1980-83 and never lost a game at home, going 43-0 (77–21 overall). He passed away in 2004 at the age of 77.
The throwback uniforms are modeled after what Colorado wore during the 1960s with a gold “BUFFS” wordmark across the chest and gold numbers outlined in black. The jerseys are trimmed in black and gold around the collar and arm holes are trimmed with gold and black, while the shorts feature an old-school interlocking “CU.”
In addition to the uniform, the Buffaloes will don throwback shooting shirts before the game. Check out more photos of the threads below:
