The Single-A Hickory Crawdads will combine two local leading industries into one alternate identity this season. Hickory, North Carolina, is known as the “Furniture Capital of the World” for it prominence in that market, and the state of North Carolina is the nation’s leading producer of sweet potatoes.
Put them together and what do you get? Couch Potatoes, of course. The Crawdads will take on that name and wear specialty jerseys for three games this season. The team’s logo features a potato in a piece of furniture, eating potato chips and working a TV remote. (Yes, you’re right to be concerned about the ethical implications of a potato eating potato chips. And no, that piece of furniture is not a couch. It’s minor league baseball, everyone. Roll with it.)
The Couch Potatoes jerseys will be orange and teal, with a wordmark meant to emulate grease stains left by potato chips.
The Crawdads will play as the Couch Potatoes June 18–20, 2020.
