The Montreal Canadiens added a memorial patch to their sweaters last night to honour the memory of Henri Richard.
Richard, who died late last week at the age of 84, spent twenty seasons with the Canadiens from 1955 through 1975 winning an incredible eleven Stanley Cups with the team during that time while also appearing in nine All-Star Games. He was the younger brother of fellow Canadiens great Maurice Richard.
The memorial patch shows Richard’s number 16 in a white block font on a black circle trimmed in white. It’s the same style of patch the team wore after the death of Jean Beliveau in 2014.
Montreal retired Richard’s number just a few months following his retirement in 1975, he was elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1979.

Richard a été membre des Canadiens pendant 20 ans de 1955 à 1975, il est décédé vendredi dernier à l’âge de 84 ans. Richard a remporté 11 Coupes Stanley avec les Canadiens et a disputé 9 Matchs des Étoiles de la LNH. Il était le frère cadet de Maurice Richard.
Le patch affiche le numéro 16 de Richard en blanc sur un cercle noir et blanc. C’est un design similaire à ce que l’équipe portait pour Jean Beliveau en 2014.
Le numéro de Richard a été retiré par les Canadiens en décembre 1975, il a été élu au Temple de la Renommée du Hockey en 1979.
