The Temple University athletic department announced earlier this month that Nike will become the official outfitter of the Owls’ 19 varsity programs beginning in July 2020.
“We are very excited about our new partnership with Nike, the leading apparel company of collegiate athletics,” Temple athletic director Dr. Patrick Kraft said in a statement. “We look forward to working together in this partnership to enhance the Temple and Nike brands.”
The Owls have been sponsored by Under Armour since 2010, but the two recently and mutually agreed to part ways just five years into a 10-year, $30 million contract extension signed in 2015.
Temple will become the sixth of 11 full-time members in the American Athletic Conference outfitted by Nike, joining Houston, Memphis, SMU, Tulane and UCF. Former member UConn is also a Nike school, but will become an FBS Independent program in football and a member of the Big East in all other sports starting this fall.
“I’m really looking forward to the move to Nike,” said head football coach Rod Carey. “They have always been at the cutting edge for sports gear and apparel so it’s only natural that we would engage in a partnership. I know our student-athletes will be excited to be wearing the Swoosh.”
