Truman State Bulldogs Unveil Refreshed Logo, Color Scheme

In an effort to visually align with the academic marks released in March, the Truman State athletic department earlier this week unveiled a refreshed “T-Dog” primary logo alongside associated typography.

“Throughout our history, the Bulldog brand has been changed many times,” athletic director Jerry Wollmering said in a statement. “I’m excited about the way our ’T-Dog’ tagline was preserved as our primary logo while bringing the bulldog to life. While there are many things that remain uncertain around us right now, one thing that will always remain is who we are.”

The updated athletic mark — created by SME Marketing using input from administration, coaches and student-athletes — italicizes the university’s “T” logo and then places a new bulldog in front of it. The dog’s collar also introduces light blue as a new secondary color alongside the traditional purple and white scheme.

“We said one of the things we wanted to do was bring the collar to life and have color in the collar for the dog,” Wollmering told the Kirksville Daily Express. “I think it goes really well with the purple. It’s distinct.”

The new wordmarks are a combination of the Redzone Classic and Hurme Geometric Sans Bold fonts, meanwhile.

It will take some time for Truman State’s updated logo and new wordmarks to show up on the Bulldogs’ Under Armour uniforms because of the athletic department’s budget, but the changes will be immediately reflected on the basketball court at Pershing Arena. The court is scheduled to undergo a restoration project in the coming week to include an extended men’s three-point line as required by NCAA rules.

Located in Kirksville, Missouri, Truman State fields 20 varsity sports in the Division II Great Lakes Valley Conference. The women’s swimming and diving team is undoubtedly the Bulldogs’ most-successful program, winning seven national titles between 2001-08.
