The Kalamazoo Growlers were supposed to tip their caps to dairy-loving dads by playing as the Mac Daddies this Fathers Day weekend, but with baseball schedules everywhere upended by the COVID-19 crisis, the promotion has been delayed until later in the year. The Growlers, who play in the collegiate summer Northwoods League, intended to partner with Michigan’s Undeniably Dairy Mac and Cheese Festival, which was scheduled to be held at the team’s Homer Stryker Field for the second year.
The Mac Daddies logo features a grimacing, fork-wielding version of the elbow noodle typically associated boxed mac and cheese. The Kraft-yellow uniforms feature a noodly script with the legend “Mac Daddies” across the chest.
“We saw this as a perfect marriage between dad and America’s favorite side dish,” said Growlers Managing Member Brian Colopy, quoted on the team’s website. “After realizing the overwhelming amount of love for mac and cheese after hosting the festival last year, we wanted to do something fun for our fans.”
The new date for the mac and cheese promotion will be announced with the Growlers’ revise schedule when officials open venues for safe events.
