Report: NBA Players Can Include Social Justice Statement on Jerseys

When the 2019-20 National Basketball Association season resumes next month, players will have the option to include a statement about social justice on their jerseys. This according to a Tweet made by The Athletic’s Shams Charania late Saturday night.

It’s a fairly similar idea to what Conrad Burry had shared with us earlier this week, but instead of entirely new jerseys for the entire team as Conrad had pitched, this message would be worn on the back of the jersey in place of each player’s name.

Charania’s sources also said that the National Basketball Player’s Association had begun relaying the details of the plan to its players and that it had been working with the NBA and Nike to accomplish it.

The league is set to return to action in an abbreviated format on Thursday, July 30th with all games to be played on ESPN’s Wide World of Sports at Disney World in Orlando. Twenty-two of the league’s thirty teams will return to action with each club playing eight regular season games following by the 2020 NBA Playoffs. The season had been suspended four months earlier due to the global pandemic.
