Pics: NHL Hub City Ice Designs, Rink Layouts

With the National Hockey League getting set to resume play this week, we’re now getting our first look at how the two arenas will look during games.

Both of the “Hub Cities” — Edmonton and Toronto — will feature six giant video boards placed in the lower level of the seating area — two smaller video boards separate the two groups of three around the centre ice area. The empty seats in that lower bowl will be covered with tarps with the NHL shield logo, the name of the Hub City, and various silver design elements

A question I was asked many times had to do with what the Hub City centre ice designs would be for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs, we finally have that answer. Centre ice will feature the top half of the Stanley Cup with a “20” on either side for the year. Outside the faceoff circle it reads “NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE” arched over the top, while the bottom will read the name of the arena and city. Behind each blue line will be the usual “STANLEY CUP” wordmark logo.

Take a look, with these photos from the National Hockey League:

The NHL resumes play with a series of exhibition games beginning this Tuesday, July 28th. From there we go right into the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Stanley Cup Qualifiers round (as well as the round-robin seeding tournament) starting on Saturday, August 1st.
