In a move that should come as no surprise after Sam Houston State unveiled new logos and an updated color scheme this spring, the Bearkats’ football program released the corresponding uniform changes on Tuesday afternoon.
Sam Houston State’s new Under Armour uniforms are rather simple compared to the previous set, with a block font and a contrasting collar and cuffs. They’re also completely devoid of the color blue and now feature gray trim around the numbers, as outlined in the athletic department’s updated brand guidelines.
The Bearkats have also ditched their matte orange helmet in favor of a glossy finish and placed their new primary logo on both sides. The logo can also be found on the left hip of the pants, which feature one large contrasting stripe down the sides, and the back of the jersey where the nameplate would normally be.
That said, Sam Houston State’s new uniforms won’t make their on-field debut until February 20 after the Football Championship Subdivision’s Southland Conference postponed fall sports amid the coronavirus pandemic. The Bearkats are scheduled to kick off their six-game season at Incarnate Word in San Antonio.
