The Arizona Coyotes will honour the memory of Leighton Accardo by way of a special decal applied to the back of their helmets throughout the 2020-21 NHL season.
Accardo was a 9-year-old avid hockey fan who played for the Coyotes youth team the Kachinas and was “beloved by the Coyotes organization”. Accardo died on November 24, 2020, following a two-year battle with germ cell cancer.
The memorial decal features Accardo’s initials LA as well as her number 49 which she wore with the Kachinas placed in a purple and white circle, the colours of the NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer program. The logo will be worn on their helmets for all Coyotes games and practices for the remainder of the 2020-21 season.
