Italian Serie A powerhouses AC Milan unveiled their new home jersey for 2021-22 on Tuesday, May 11, putting a fresh spin on their traditional red and black stripes.
Taking “inspiration from the energy, creativity and style of Milan,” according to the club’s website, the jersey — manufactured by Puma — features a thick black stripe in the centre, with stripes becoming narrower as they move outward. A black panel runs under the arm and cuts off at an angle, giving off serious mid-2000s Nike vibes.
The jersey will make its debut on Saturday, May 15, when AC Milan Women wear it against Sassuolo in a league matchup. The men’s team will follow suit the next day, wearing the jersey against Cagliari at the San Siro stadium.
“AC Milan as a club is a mirror of the energy and spirit of the city of Milan,” Casper Stylsvig, AC Milan’s chief revenue officer, told the club’s website. “We are very proud to be launching our new home kit today and debuting it on the pitch for the first time with our Women’s team. Once again, Puma’s new jersey captures the true essence of Milan, a unique blend of football, fashion and culture that truly sets this club and this city apart.”
Of note, the women’s team shirt sponsor is Banco BPM, an Italian bank based in Milan, while the men’s team is sponsored by Emirates Airline.
Another difference between the men’s and women’s jerseys is that the women’s jerseys have defined, solid red collars and sleeve cuffs, whereas the men’s jerseys do not.
The slogan “Sempre Milan” appears on the back of the jersey, near the collar.
Illustrations of AC Milan’s possible away and third kits for 2021-22 have also surfaced online in recent weeks. According to soccer blog Todo Sobre Camisetas, the away kit could be an off-white colour, while the third kit could be black and feature an unconventional Puma template with the club name written across the chest.
