German Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg are on the hunt for both European and domestic glory in the 2021-22 season, and they’ll chase it wearing new home and away jerseys made by Nike.
The jerseys were unveiled on Friday, May 21, with the club using the hashtag #Nachtschicht (“night shift”) to emphasize the work the team will be putting in. It “stands for the story of the underdog, who has battled with a lot of heart and hard work to reach the top – just as the Wolves have done in the table,” the club’s website reads.
The home jersey retains Wolfsburg’s customary bright green colour, with a white collar and sleeve cuffs. The jersey pattern mimics that of an “Erlkönig,” a prototype car covered in a visually confusing pattern in order to mask details. This is a nod to the club’s beginnings as a team of workers at the Volkswagen plant in the city.
The away kit has a dark green base, and uses a slightly lighter shade of green on the raglan sleeves. Bright green — the same shade as the home jersey — is used for the Nike logo, the sponsor logo and trim on the collar.
Wolfsburg’s light blue kit from 2020-21 will remain in use for the 2021-22 season.
The Wolfsburg men’s team will wear the new home kits for the first time on Saturday, May 22, when they take on Mainz 05 in their 2020-21 Bundesliga finale.
