The Lake Country DockHounds announced their name last month, and this week, coinciding with the groundbreaking on their new stadium, Wisconsin Brewing Company Park, the team unveiled its logo.
The logo centers on team mascot Louie (an homage to Louisville Slugger bats) wearing a fishing hat and a DockHounds jersey. Louie’s choice of uniform number 5 is a tribute to the five occurrences of the letter O in the team’s hometown of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
The name, selected from more than 2,700 entries in a name-the-team contest, derives from the dogs that malinger on and around the boat docks of Waukesha County’s more than 140 lakes.
“We were blown away by the amount of support and participation from the community after we announced the new team and contest to help us find a name,” team owner Tom Kelenic said in a press release. “Now that the team has an identity that Lake Country can rally behind, it’s time to get to work building a first-class ballpark and a championship-winning team that we can all be proud of.”
The DockHounds will play in the American Association of Professional Baseball beginning in 2022.
