Most European club soccer leagues are underway, but that hasn’t stemmed the tide of kit unveilings in recent days. Many clubs are releasing away and third jerseys in anticipation of domestic and Champions League play. Let’s take a closer look at some recent reveals from around Europe…
BAYERN MUNICH – Third
Defending German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich’s new third jersey for 2021-22, made by adidas, has a line art graphic on the front and sleeves “inspired by the mountain panorama of Munich’s surroundings,” according to the club’s website. “Using a white-blue colour scheme, a stylised mountain world is incorporated into the innovative design, symbolising the home ties and roots of Germany’s record champions as well as their demand to always aim for the highest peaks.” The crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are navy blue, with slightly lighter blue trim on the outer edges. The adidas shoulder stripes are red, as is the sponsor logo and the monochromatic club crest.
Bayern Munich wore these kits for the first time on Tuesday, Aug. 17, when they faced Borussia Dortmund in the German Supercup.
BURNLEY – Away
English Premier League side Burnley are keeping it clean with their 2021-22 away kit, made by Umbro. The shirt is predominantly white, with sky blue pinstripes down the front. The V-neck collar is half claret and half white, while the sleeve cuffs are sky blue with claret trim. The shorts and socks worn with this shirt are also white with sky blue accents. It will be worn for the first time on Saturday, Aug. 21, when Burnley travel to Anfield to face Liverpool.
LILLE OSC – Third
Defending French Ligue 1 champions Lille pay homage to one of their city’s best-known landmarks with their 2021-22 third kit, made by New Balance. The predominantly black shirt features a tonal graphic on the front depicting la Citadelle de Lille, the military installation that was built between 1667 and 1670 and the inspiration behind the pentagonal shape of the club crest. The crest itself appears in monochromatic pink (“coral”), while the sponsor and New Balance logos are white.
US SALERNITANA 1919 – Fourth
Salernitana will have no shortage of options when Italy’s Serie A season kicks off this weekend. With home, away and third kits made by Zeus already revealed, the newly promoted side also unveiled a fourth kit this week. The white and blue stripes on the front harken back to kits the club wore when it was first established in 1919. Garnet stripes appear on the shoulders and side panels, while the Zeus logos and the back of the collar are a bluish-grey shade.
