The Minnesota Wild teased what appears to be a new uniform this morning via posts to their social media channels.
Accompanied by the message “well, well, well… what do we have here?”, the posts featured a close-up photo of a hockey sweater in Minnesota Wild colours. We are shown large bands of white, green, and wheat with a single red stripe.
So, what do we see here? Well, it’s one of two things.
Either we have a preview of the uniform Minnesota in planning on wearing in the 2022 Winter Classic outdoor game against St. Louis at Target Field on January 1st OR it’s a brand new third uniform for the Wild.
The Wild are one of four teams confirmed to be participating in outdoor games in the NHL in 2021-22. They will be hosting the Winter Classic against the St. Louis Blues, there’s also the Nashville Predators and Tampa Bay Lightning who will be playing in the Stadium Series at Nashville. There are recent reports that the Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres will also play a Heritage Classic outdoor game in March 2022 at Hamilton.
UPDATE (Sep 1/21): The Wild posted another teaser pic today, this time showing what’s clearly a state of Minnesota patch in red on a green field, the state abbreviation of “MN” looks to be written in wheat on the state shape.
A graphic below of both teaser photos side-by-side:
I’ve also been told several times since first writing this story that the Wild are expected to be unveiling their 2022 Winter Classic uniform on Saturday, September 4th; so it’s fairly likely that’s what we’re seeing here.
