After a season and a half without a sponsor logo on their jerseys, Major League Soccer outfit Inter Miami have signed a deal with a cryptofinance company to fill that space.
The club announced on Wednesday, Sept. 15, that it had reached a deal with global cryptofinance firm XBTO to put their logo on the front of the team’s game jerseys, starting with their match against New York Red Bulls on Friday, Sept. 17.
“We are pleased to welcome XBTO to our Inter Miami family and to be able to share another milestone with our fans,” said Inter Miami CEO and managing owner Jorge Mas on the club’s website. “XBTO will be fully integrated across Inter Miami’s platforms beyond the jersey. Together we will raise awareness and build credibility, and further accelerate the social benefits of cryptocurrency through strategic initiatives as XBTO continues to redefine the next era of finance.”
The deal is reported to be one of the largest jersey sponsorship deals in MLS to date, though the exact terms were not released. XBTO recently moved its headquarters to Miami.
“As institutional adoption of cryptofinance continues to grow, XBTO is dedicated to establishing greater trust, transparency and stability within the industry,” said XBTO founder and CEO Philippe Bekhazi. “Our partnership with Inter Miami brings us one step closer in our mission to advance cryptofinance beyond the digital asset industry.”
Since first taking the pitch in March 2020, Inter Miami had not had a game jersey sponsor until this week. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported in July 2021 that the club was in discussions with “multiple companies” for a deal. The club also has a deal with AutoNation to have that company’s logo on their practice jerseys.
