The Los Angeles Clippers (or “LA Clippers”, as they prefer to be called) are the latest NBA team to see their City Edition uniform for the 2021-22 season leaked a wee bit early.
It’s a combination of two distinct eras of Clippers basketball, acknowledging the team’s history in San Diego while bringing in an old jersey wordmark long used by the Southern California franchise.
In the above photo, which comes courtesy Twitter user @JoeyLinn_, we see the Sky Blue and Burnt Orange of the San Diego Clippers forming the base of the team’s new City Edition look, across the chest is the “Clippers” scripted wordmark which appeared on various team jerseys and with mild tweaks between the 1987/88 and 2014/15 seasons. The number font is a mystery to me, I can’t place it, please let me know in the comments if you can figure out what I’m missing there. (I’m assuming it’s supposed to be the San Diego Clippers font but it’s not an exact match to the font they used, as far as I can tell)
Sadly there doesn’t appear to be any acknowledgement of the team’s true origins in Buffalo where they played as the Braves from 1970-78.
The original Tweet from @JoeyLinn_, in addition to showing the backs of the jerseys also expresses a lack of confidence in their authenticity. SportsLogos.Net can put those concerns to rest and confirm that this is indeed the Clippers “City Edition” jersey for the 2021-22 season.
This leak comes on the heels of the Dallas Mavericks City Edition uniform which had leaked earlier this week.
