Italian Serie A side AS Roma is celebrating a classic crest with their new third kit for the 2021-22 season, manufactured by New Balance.
Roma unveiled the kits on Wednesday, Nov. 17. They are predominantly yellow, with navy blue raglan sleeves. A red and blue sash runs diagonally across the front of the shirt.
The sash is broken up by Roma’s classic lupetto, or wolf’s head, crest inside red and blue circles. The wolf’s head itself is navy blue with a red eye.
The sleeve cuffs feature red trim and New Balance’s signature flash. The New Balance logo appears on the chest in blue, while the logo of sponsor DigitalBits appears in white. Like the club’s away and fourth kits, the back of the collar features an insert with red, orange and yellow stripes, along with a modern “AS•ROMA” wordmark.
The shorts and socks that go with the shirt are both predominantly yellow. The shorts have blue logos and red inserts at the hem, while the socks have blue and red stripes containing a club wordmark.
The lupetto crest first featured on an AS Roma kit in 1978. It has been used on and off since then, appearing in various colour combinations and either with or without a circular border. It was also used as a tonal pattern on the front of Roma’s 2021-22 fourth kit, unveiled in October. Click here for a video on the history of this crest.
AS Roma’s next Serie A match is a visit to CFC Genoa on Sunday, Nov. 21. Genoa use a blue, red and white colour scheme, so that may have affected the timing of this kit launch.
