Leaked Photos of Three New MLS Kits Pop Up Online

As Major League Soccer’s 2022 kickoff gets closer and closer, leaked photos of new team kits are starting to show up more frequently online. ‘Tis the season for overzealous sports store employees to put jerseys out on sales racks before they’re officially released, after all.

This week, photos of three new MLS kits surfaced online. Let’s take a closer look at each of them …

PHILADELPHIA UNION – Home

From 2010 to 2017, Philadelphia Union home kits had a large gold stripe running vertically down the front of the shirt. This leaked home kit for 2022 — which an eagle-eyed Redditor spotted on eBay and saved an image of before the listing was taken down — harkens back to that, this time with a light blue stripe bordered in gold running down the left side of the navy blue shirt, under the crest. The Adidas and sponsor logos are gold, as is the trim around the V-neck collar and the sleeve cuffs. The snake from the Union crest is isolated and appears in the jock tag position.

Based on the tags and markings, this leaked shirt appears to be an authentic on-field version.

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION – Home

Along with their new crest for 2022 comes a new home kit for the New England Revolution, which was spotted by another Redditor in a sports store in New Hampshire. It’s predominantly navy blue, with a pattern of embossed rectangles criss-crossing all over the front and sleeves. The crew neck collar and sleeve cuff are also navy blue, while the Adidas logos and stripes are white.

The new crest appears on the left chest inside its white roundel. When the new crest was unveiled, many Revolution supporters assumed the red sash in the crest would home kits would be mirrored on the kits, but that is not the case here. In fact, the only red on the kit appears to be in the crest and in a “96” badge in the jock tag position.

This shirt does not have the same tags as the Union jersey above, nor does it have the scoop back hem, so it’s safe to assume this is a replica version and does not have all the details the authentic on-field kit will have.

UPDATE (Feb. 7, 2022): More photos of a Revs’ replica jersey were posted to Twitter by user @SethMan31 on Sunday. They show more detail of the embossed pattern, the crest and the jock tag.

NEW YORK RED BULLS – Away

After two years wearing a black away kit, it looks as if New York Red Bulls are once again embracing the “red” part of their name. Leaked photos of the team’s new away kit show a red shirt with a tonal checkerboard pattern made up of squares filled in with pen strokes. The pattern mirrors what’s found on the club’s current white home kit, though the squares are larger here. The crest on the left chest is full-colour, but the sponsor logo is in only red and white. The Adidas logo and stripes are white, while the crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are red.
