Major League Soccer side Real Salt Lake are looking to make some beautiful music in their new home kit.
Unveiled on Thursday, Feb. 17, the jersey is inspired by the anthem “Believe” written by Branden Steineckert, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. “Honoring the first, the best and for nearly the entirety of Major League Soccer’s 27 seasons, the ONLY truly original chant in MLS, RSL has given its 2009 championship jersey a modern twist,” the club’s website reads.
The jersey itself is mainly red, with solid blue side panels. The V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs are blue, with red and yellow stripes. The Adidas logo and shoulder stripes are yellow, while the sponsor logo on the front is white.
A yellow lion’s head logo appears on the back collar. The jock tag is a yellow outline of the state of Utah, with “EST. 05” written inside.
“‘The RSL Way’ is truly reflected in the 2022/23 BELIEVE kit, with the overall design enhancing Real Salt Lake’s bold colors – Claret Red, Cobalt Blue & Victory Gold – while reflecting a classic look worthy of the Club’s primary jersey. A new era is officially underway. While RSL honors the Club’s greatest accomplishment with this kit, everyone from David Blitzer, Ryan Smith to fans across the world BELIEVE Real Salt Lake’s best days are still ahead.”
– John Kimball, Real Salt Lake president
Players can be seen in the unveiling video wearing the jersey along with blue shorts with yellow Adidas stripes. The socks that go with the kit are unfortunately not visible.
Real Salt Lake kicks off its 2022 MLS season on Sunday, Feb. 27, with a visit to Houston Dynamo. Their home opener is on Saturday, March 5, against the Seattle Sounders.
