Players on AFC Richmond are getting a kit upgrade next season.
Producers of the Apple TV+ show Ted Lasso and Nike announced Monday that they’ve signed a deal for the fictional English football club to sport Nike kits in the show’s third (and presumed final) season.
The deal was celebrated in a series of tweets from the accounts of Nike, AFC Richmond and Ted Lasso himself.
The tweets show what appears to be a half-blue, half-red shirt with a yellow Nike swoosh, the AFC Richmond crest, and the logo of fictional dating app bantr, which was developed in the show by character Keeley Jones (played by Juno Temple).
This would be a departure from the kits Richmond wore in the first two seasons of the show, which were mainly blue with a red vertical stripe bordered in gold running down the left side, under the crest.
Throughout the first two seasons, players and coaches wore kits and training gear made by fictional company Verani Sports. The apparel featured a white wing logo, and a company wordmark could be seen in the background of some scenes.
In October 2021, Ted Lasso producers signed a licensing deal with the Premier League that allows the show to use actual club names, crests and kits, along with archival footage from the league and even the Premier League trophy.
Season 3 of Ted Lasso does not have a release date yet — filming began Sunday in London, according to Parade magazine — but it will see AFC Richmond back in the Premier League after they won promotion at the end of Season 2.
