The new away kits for National Women’s Soccer League side Angel City FC finally saw the light of day on Saturday.
The club, which boasts a long list of celebrity investors, broke out the new kits in their NWSL Challenge Cup match against fellow expansion franchise San Diego Wave FC. Dubbed the “Daylight” kit, the jersey is mostly white, with a pink crew neck collar and an all-over pattern of pink and black palm fronds.
The left sleeve switches things up, though, with pink and white fronds on a black base.
The jersey is “undoubtedly LA — paying homage to this great city, from the concrete to the coast,” according to the club’s website.
Angel City has retired the number 22, celebrating both its inaugural season and the number of players from both teams on the pitch. The club is donating 10% of the revenue from the sale of #22 kits to programs that “create pathways for former NWSL players to build careers in the sports industry.”
The shirt was paired with pink shorts — or “Sol Rosa,” to follow Nike and Angel City’s nomenclature from the crest unveiling in June 2021 — and white socks.
Unfortunately, the new kit didn’t come with the results Angel City had hoped for, as they lost 4-2 to San Diego on Saturday. That loss took their record to zero losses, three losses and a draw so far in the NWSL Challenge Cup.
