The Texas Rangers will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their move down from Washington with, not only a commemorative logo patch but also a series of throwback uniform games.
The 50th anniversary patch (seen above), was unveiled back in November, it features the number 50 with the cowboy hat and baseball from the Texas Rangers’ first logo placed within the “0”. The patch will be worn on the right sleeve of the team’s home, road, and alternate jerseys.
Yesterday, the Rangers announced that they would be bringing back their original 1972 inaugural season home white uniforms for a series of five games throughout the 2022 season.
The Rangers previously wore the 1972 home throwback uniforms for their 40th anniversary back on May 12, 2012:
The five games in 2022 we’ll see the 1972 Texas Rangers uniforms in are:
Saturday, April 30 vs the Atlanta Braves
Saturday, June 25 vs the Washington Nationals
Saturday, August 13 vs the Seattle Mariners
Sunday, September 25 vs the Cleveland Guardians
Wednesday, October 5 vs the New York Yankees
That June 25th tilt against the Nationals catches my eye in terms of some potential throwback uniform fun; just imagine the Nats wearing 1971 Washington Senators road uniforms? You’d get uniforms from the same franchise against each other, Washington 1971 vs Texas 1972.
The Rangers advise this schedule is subject to change.
