Tottenham Hotspur Switch Up Shirt Sponsor for Launch of Charity Initiative

English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur switched up their jersey sponsor during their match on Sunday to help raise awareness for a good cause.

Spurs took to the pitch at home against Leicester City on Sunday with the logo of the AIA Better Lives Fund on their chests. This coincided with the launch of the Grant A Wish with AIA Better Lives Fund initiative, which aims to raise funds for good causes.

The match-worn shirts will be signed and auctioned off, with the proceeds going toward the AIA Better Lives Fund and the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation.

The AIA Better Lives Fund was established by AIA Singapore — a life insurance company that has been Tottenham’s primary shirt sponsor since 2013 — to support two of its long-standing charity partners: Children’s Wishing Well and the VIVA Foundation. The former supports the educational and daily living needs of disadvantaged children in Singapore, while the latter supports kids with cancer through research, medical care and education.

“AIA Singapore remains steadfast in our commitment to build an inclusive Singapore for generations to come,” AIA Singapore CEO Wong Sze Keed said on the club’s website. “The launch of the ‘Grant a Wish with AIA Better Lives Fund’ initiative underpins our mission in supporting children and families in need, and enabling the greater community to live healthier, longer, better lives.”

The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation delivers programs throughout the local community to provide life-changing opportunities through sports.

“We are extremely proud of how our partnership with AIA continues to benefit the lives of so many, both in the Asia-Pacific region and within our own local communities,” said Tottenham Hotspur executive director Donna-Maria Cullen. “This is now the fourth occasion in the past seven years that we have partnered on a charity shirt initiative, each time raising vital funds and awareness for good causes through the unique and global platform that a Premier League match provides. We are looking forward to continuing our work with AIA in supporting children and families to live healthier, longer and better lives.”

Last year, Tottenham sported the logo of the Indochina Starfish Foundation (ISF) Cambodia for a match to raise awareness for the charity. ISF “uses education to transform the lives of thousands of underprivileged children in Cambodia.”
