Bundesliga Sides Mainz 05, Hoffenheim Unveil New Home Kits for 2022-23 Season

Two Bundesliga sides got a jump start on the 2022-23 season by unveiling their new home kits over the past week.

First, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim — who sat in eighth place in the Bundesliga as of Monday — unveiled their new home kits, manufactured by Joma, on Friday, May 6, and wore them in their final home game of the 2021-22 season against Bayer Leverkusen the following day.

The kits retain Hoffenheim’s traditional blue home motif, but the shirt is augmented with curved “ice blue” and white lines across the front. These lines “symbolize the hilly landscape typical of the Kraichgau,” according to the club’s website. Kraichgau is the region in southwest Germany where the club is based.

The crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are white. The shorts are white with blue hems. The socks are royal blue, with a white stripe at the very top and a white Joma logo on the front.

Meanwhile, FSV Mainz 05 — who were in ninth place in the Bundesliga table, just behind Hoffenheim, after the weekend — unveiled their new Kappa home kits on Monday, and will wear them in their 2021-22 season finale on Saturday, May 14, against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Mainz’s new kits are predominantly red, with a large geometric tonal pattern on the front and gold trim on the sleeve cuffs and back collar. On the front, underneath the sponsor logo, is a message of peace: the words “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and a heart in blue and yellow, the colours of the Ukrainian flag.

The message is a joint effort between the club and their sponsors Kömmerling, who operate the Kömmerling Better World Stiftung, a charitable foundation that supports a wide range of humitarian causes.

The shirt was paired with white shorts and red socks in promotional photos posted on the club’s website Monday.
