The National Hockey League this week unveiled the logo for its upcoming 2023 NHL Stadium Series outdoor game between the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals at North Carolina State’s Carter-Finley Stadium on Saturday, February 18, 2023.
It’s the first outdoor game in which the Hurricanes will act as host or participate.
The logo for the game includes a few nods to the City of Raleigh, the State of North Carolina, and the host Hurricanes while also tossing in a history of the game itself.
It’s an acorn-shaped shield with a black oak tree at the base; both reference the City of Raleigh’s “City of Oaks” nickname. Along the bottom of the shield is a ribbon containing the city and date of the game based on the ribbon featured on the State of North Carolina flag. Twelve stadium lights span the top of the shield, one for each Stadium Series game (including this one). Finally, the colour scheme of red, black, and silver pays tribute to the Carolina Hurricanes’ 25th anniversary season.

Here’s a look at the primary, unbranded primary (where did that North Carolina ribbon go?!), and French primary logos for the 2023 NHL Stadium Series:
The unbranded primary logo is usually reserved for on-ice jersey applications (the player’s shoulder patches) and retail.
The 2023 NHL Stadium Series game will be held at NC State’s Carter-Finley Stadium on Saturday, February 18, 2023, between the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes. Currently, it is one of only two scheduled outdoor games set for the 2022-23 NHL season, with the other being the annual Winter Classic which will be held at Boston’s Fenway Park for a second time.
