The 2022 NFL season is upon us, as the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams will kick things off when they host the Buffalo Bills on Thursday evening (8:20 p.m. ET on NBC).
With that, SportsLogos.Net has taken this opportunity to compile a list of every logo, name and uniform change across the league this offseason for you right here, in one easy-to-find spot, broken down team-by-team.
Before we get to each team’s uniform changes, we must point out the single most significant change to the NFL landscape this offseason… the introduction of alternate and throwback helmets.
Teams are now allowed to wear an alternate color shell with their throwback, alternate or Color Rush uniforms, so long as the throwbacks are historically accurate and any new alternates use a logo from the team’s history rather than create a new one.
In total, 13 teams introduced an alternate or throwback helmet for this season. The most popular style of alternate helmet has been black, with six teams going that route. Details on each of those can be found in the team sections to follow.
SUPER BOWL LVII LOGO
Earlier this year, the NFL revealed the Super Bowl LVII logo, which will take place at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., on Feb. 12, 2023. The design uses a turquoise, purple and red color scheme, pulls inspiration from the desert landscape and has a subtle nod to the beams of sunshine on the state flag. So, now that we’ve set the stage, let’s dive head first into our comprehensive list of team-by-team changes for the 2022-23 NFL season:
Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals unveiled a black alternate helmet in July that already made its debut in a preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens on Aug. 21 and will be worn twice more this fall. That includes Oct. 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles and Oct. 20 against the New Orleans Saints.
The helmet, which features subtle red flakes and chrome decals with a gradient effect, will be paired with Arizona’s black alternate uniform (with white numbers) against the Eagles and Color Rush set (with red numbers) against the Saints.
Atlanta Falcons
This summer, the Falcons reintroduced their red throwback helmets, which feature their old primary logo on both sides, a gray facemask and center stripe that borrows its colors from Georgia and Georgia Tech.
The helmet will be worn against the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 16 and Pittsburgh Steelers on Dec. 4 and will be paired with Atlanta’s 1966 throwback jersey, pants and socks, which previously blended eras with a 1990s-style black helmet.
Buffalo Bills
While the Bills won’t officially have any uniform changes this season, quarterback Josh Allen teased fans by wearing a red helmet (along with their red alternate jersey) during an open practice at Highmark Stadium in early August.
The helmet was similar to what Buffalo wore from 2002-10, with the charging buffalo on both sides, but it featured a red center stripe flanked by thinner royal blue and navy blue stripes. The original design included a white center stripe, meanwhile.
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers have worn silver helmets for their entire existence but will debut a black alternate helmet against the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 10. It will be paired with their all-black Color Rush uniforms.

Of note, the logos on the sides of Carolina’s silver helmets have silver eyes and teeth, whereas the panthers on the black helmet are entirely light blue. The helmet is complete with light blue stripes down the middle.
Chicago Bears
Continuing with the alternate helmet trend, the Bears made the surprising decision to introduce an orange helmet – something they haven’t worn since the 1930s – after more than 80 years in navy blue.
The orange helmet, which features a blue facemask and blue wishbone “C” outlined in white, will be worn twice this season, including Oct. 13 against the Washington Commanders and Oct. 30 against the Dallas Cowboys. It will be paired with Chicago’s orange alternate jersey and white pants.

Additionally, the Bears will continue to wear their 1936 throwback uniforms, just like they have since 2019. That look will return on Sept. 25 against the Houston Texans.
Cincinnati Bengals
Fans have been clamoring for the Bengals to wear white alternate helmets since they introduced their Color Rush uniforms in 2016. They’ll finally get their wish this season, as Cincinnati will wear that exact combination against the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 29 and Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 20.
Interestingly, the NFL’s rules require teams to wear alternate helmets with alternate uniforms, meaning the Bengals had to bring back the Color Rush set after one year without them rather than donning their standard road uniforms, which are mostly devoid of orange, as well.
Cleveland Browns
The Browns won’t look any different on the field this season, but the field on which they play will after they sought fan input for a new design. The team promoted four different designs, all of which prominently displayed a helmet or Brownie the Elf at midfield and in the end zones.
Cleveland has not had a midfield logo since 2016 but notably placed a helmet stripe along the 50-yard line for the last two seasons. The winning design has not yet been announced, though voting ended on Aug. 27.
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys will be one of just two teams (the Bears being the other) wearing three different helmet designs this season after they reintroduced a white lid this offseason.
The helmet will feature a simple blue star on both sides, two blue stripes and a gray facemask for the Thanksgiving Day matchup with the New York Giants. That will also mark the return of their blue throwback jerseys, with stars on the shoulders and white sleeves that haven’t worn since 2011.
Dallas will then swap the decals and facemask for their current star and white facemask for the Dec. 29 game against the Tennessee Titans. Referred to as the “Arctic Cowboys” look, the helmet will be paired with their current all-white Color Rush set, which is the inverse of the throwback mentioned above uniform.
Denver Broncos
While the Broncos haven’t made any sweeping changes to their standard look since 1997, new team president Damani Leech said during his introductory press conference on Aug. 29 that he will be “looking at” their uniforms once he finally settles into his role.
In the meantime, Denver will continue to wear its Color Rush set that blends the current era of navy blue with the retro bucking bronco logo. However, it will make just one appearance this season against the Las Vegas Raiders on Nov. 20.
Detroit Lions
Similarly, the Lions are now eligible to update their uniforms, having unveiled their current look ahead of the 2017 season. Team president Rod Wood said there wouldn’t be any changes this season, but he didn’t rule it out for the future.
“We’re actually starting a process to look at a possible change for next year,” Wood said in March. “It’s really like a year-plus lead time, so we just convened a committee. I know we get a lot of things tweeted at us and suggestions about what fans want, so we catalog all those, and we’ll take them under advisement.”
Green Bay Packers
The Packers have not revealed their uniform schedule for the upcoming season, but team president Mark Murphy said this summer they’ll wear their 1950s throwback uniform for at least one game through 2025.
The uniform features a decal-less gold helmet with a gray facemask, a green jersey with gold numbers and gold striping pattern on the sleeves and green pants. It made its debut in last season’s 24-10 win over the Washington Football Team.
Houston Texans
The Texans will honor the 19 children and two teachers who lost their lives in the May 24 mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, by wearing a “Uvalde Strong” helmet decal during the Sept. 11 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts.
Houston will also debut a Battle Red helmet against the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 3, pairing it with their already-existing red alternate jersey and white pants. This marks the first time in franchise history the Texans will wear anything other than a blue lid.

Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs will honor late quarterback Len Dawson by wearing a helmet decal with his No. 16 for the entire season. Dawson, who led the franchise to three AFL championships (1962, 1966 and 1969) and victory in Super Bowl IV, passed away on Aug. 24 at the age of 87.
The decal made its debut in Kansas City’s preseason victory over the Green Bay Packers on Aug. 25. Similarly, Purdue – Dawson’s alma mater – wore a decal in his honor for its season opener against Penn State on Sept. 1, which included his name and number.
Los Angeles Rams
After winning Super Bowl LVI in their “modern throwback” uniforms, the Rams have promoted that design to their full-time road look.
In doing so, the bone-colored uniforms have been relegated to alternate status and will only be worn against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 18 and Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 25.
New England Patriots
The Patriots will wear the home version of their “Pat Patriot” throwback uniforms for at least one game this season, though they haven’t announced the exact date – or dates – that they’ll be worn.
New England hasn’t donned this look, which features a white helmet, red jersey with white and blue UCLA stripes on the shoulders and white pants, since the one-helmet rule went into effect. The Patriots are 9-3 all-time wearing the home or road versions of this uniform dating back to 1994.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints will debut their new black alternate helmet when they take on the Minnesota Vikings at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Oct. 2.
The helmet features New Orleans’ primary logo on both sides, a fleur-de-lis pattern down the center – mimicking the feather pattern on the Seattle Seahawks helmet – and oversized numbers on the back. It will be worn with the Saints’ Color Rush uniform.

New York Giants
The Giants unveiled 1980-99 throwback uniforms this offseason that will be worn against the Chicago Bears on Oct. 2 and Washington Commanders on Dec. 4.
The uniforms mark the return of a navy blue helmet rather than the lighter shade of blue New York wears with its standard home, road and Color Rush sets, as well as a royal blue jersey with classic striping pattern on the sleeves and cuffs.

In addition to the uniforms, MetLife Stadium will be retrofitted with the Giants’ end zone design from Super Bowl XXI and throwback wall wraps to “match the aesthetics at the time.”
New York Jets
The Jets unveiled a new “Stealth Black” alternate helmet that will be worn three times this season, including Oct. 30 against the New England Patriots, Nov. 27 against the Chicago Bears and Dec. 22 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The helmet – which features a matte black finish, chrome green facemask and reflective green logos outlined in white on the side – will be paired with New York’s black alternate uniforms. The team also hinted at a potential throwback design for 2023 in its press release for the black helmets.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles unveiled a new wordmark this offseason, updating the font to a sleeker and more modern design. However, the previous wordmark still appears under the collar of their uniforms, where it will reportedly remain until at least the 2024 season.
Philadelphia also introduced a new black alternate helmet, which will be worn with their all-black uniforms for select games this season. Assuming the NFL doesn’t allow a third lid in 2023, it will then be replaced by a Kelly green helmet as part of the return of their Kelly green throwback uniforms that season.
The Eagles initially planned to wear the Kelly green throwback uniforms this season, but claimed Nike did not have that shade of green in their existing color palette, pushing the design back to 2023.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers made several small but significant updates to their standard home scarlet and white road jerseys this offseason, including returning the franchise’s beloved Saloon font below the collar and three stripes on the sleeves.
It’s unclear at this time if San Francisco will wear its throwback uniforms this season, though the similarities between those and their updated uniforms suggest they might be pushed out of the rotation. The only notable differences are the drop shadow numbers and white pants.
Seattle Seahawks
While fans were hopeful the NFL’s relaxed rules would lead to the Seahawks wearing throwback uniforms with silver helmets this season, team president Chuck Arnold said it won’t happen until at least 2023 because of retail supply chain issues.
“We’re getting closer,” Arnold said. “We won’t see it in 2022, but we’re making really good progress. We know the fans are going to love the throwbacks.”
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Similarly, the Buccaneers announced their creamsicle throwback uniforms will triumphantly return in 2023 after being shelved since 2012 due to the NFL’s one-helmet rule.
The uniforms notably feature a white helmet with a pirate named Bucco Bruce wearing a plumed hat and clenching a knife in his mouth on both sides, as well as florescent orange or white jerseys with red accents as a nod to Florida’s citrus industry and warmth of the sunshine.
Washington Commanders
Perhaps the biggest news of the offseason, the Washington Football Team officially became the Commanders, revealing their new logos and uniforms back in February.
The new primary logo is a stylized “W,” which appears on both sides of their anodized satin burgundy primary helmet and font of the black alternate helmet. The former has a single gold stripe down the middle, while the latter has numbers on both sides and a Commanders wordmark on the back.

The burgundy home jersey features that wordmark on the chest above stenciled gold numbers, which include a white outline and mesh-like perforation holes throughout.
The striping pattern on the sleeves and three gold stars on the inside of the back collar are a nod to the flag of Washington D.C., as well as the franchise’s three Super Bowl victories.
The white road jersey has predominantly burgundy numbers, including a black outline and a white diamond-shaped gradient. That pattern is carried over the stripes on the sleeves, which are mostly white on a burgundy cap and have a black stripe running through the middle.
Washington’s black alternate jersey, meanwhile, is entirely different from the rest of the set; other than that it features the same stenciled number font in gold with a burgundy outline.
Both the collar and sleeve caps have a sublimated camouflage pattern, while the latter displays the D.C. flag on the right sleeve and the secondary logo on the left sleeve, both of which have been modified to match the Commanders’ color scheme.
Less than a month after the new name, logos and uniforms were revealed, Washington made a slight but significant change to the secondary mark to accurately reflect the seasons they won the Super Bowl. It originally noted the dates those games were played, not the seasons.
The secondary logo appears above the nameplate on the back of the home and road jerseys.
Last but not least, the Commanders revealed a 90th anniversary patch, which they’ll wear on the left shoulder of their jerseys.
The diamond-shaped patch prominently displays a large No. 90, as well as the year the franchise was founded as the Boston Braves (1932), the current year (2022) and Washington’s primary logo.
