Following a series of leaks that would shock even the folks at the NBA, the San Jose Sharks finally, officially unveiled their new 2022-23 uniforms late last night (Hey, I’m forty now, sometimes I go to bed early).
The new look, which the club is calling the “Evolve” jersey, was designed by Adidas in collaboration with the Sharks. It takes its inspiration from the original San Jose Sharks uniforms, worn from 1991-92 through 1997-98.
Fun fact, the first hockey player to wear a San Jose Sharks uniform (in public) was none other than “Mr. Hockey” himself, Gordie Howe, at the unveiling ceremony before the club’s expansion season some 30+ years ago.

Like most Sharks uniforms, Pacific Teal is the base colour here, but it’s been cranked up to eleven. The accessories that accompany the jersey have all been switched from black to teal — this includes the helmets, the gloves, and the pants.
Striping returns (thank you!) and is also inspired by the original Sharks sweater, however, the grey that was there back in the ’90s is gone, swapped out for teal on the homes and white on the roads. Other changes include a modified shoulder patch logo, a new and unique-to-the-Sharks name and number lettering, a “wave emboss texture” incorporated into the waist striping, and, of course, the 2.0 version of the Sharks’ primary crest, which has been around since 2007.

“Our original jersey continues to be extremely popular with Sharks fans, in part because they were forward thinking at the time,” said Doug Bentz, Chief Marketing Officer for the Sharks, in the team’s press release. “Combining our fan’s love for the first jersey while at the same time being true to our innovative spirit, that was the inspiration for the new ‘Evolve’ uniform. The ‘Evolve’ uniform honours tradition while representing the next generation of Sharks hockey.”

The Sharks will debut their new look when they take the ice to start the 2022-23 season for a set of games in Europe against the Nashville Predators in Prague on October 7th and 8th.
