The Orlando Magic unveiled their new NBA Nike Air Jordan “Statement Edition” uniform yesterday morning, paying tribute to “fan favourite moments” created by Orlando Magic legends.
With a blue base and pinstripes throughout, the uniform is very similar to the “Icon” edition design the club wore from 2008 to 2019. Differences include a switch of pinstripe colour from white to black and the addition of stars to the black stripes up each side. Those stars, the team says, are a tribute to the uniforms worn by the Magic from 1998 to 2003, which featured stars sublimated into the base of both their home and road looks.
Across the chest is the team’s familiar “ORLANDO” wordmark, arched in white with black trim. The player’s number is below in this same font and colourway. The Air Jordan logo appears in white on the upper right chest (as is the standard across the NBA for “Statement” uniforms), and the logo of Disney, the club’s jersey advertising partner, is placed in the upper left.
The Magic will wear the new uniform ten times at Amway Center in 2022-23, with its debut coming during the club’s home opener on October 22 against Boston. The full uniform schedule for the Magic has yet to be released.
Nike’s NBA “Statement Edition” uniforms are the modern-day version of what we used to call an alternate uniform; NBA rules stipulate Statement Edition uniforms must be worn for at least three seasons. This uniform will replace the previous Magic Statement uniform, worn since 2019-20, which was plain blue with small black squares incorporating white pinstripes on each side of the jersey.
The new Orlando Magic Statement jerseys are not yet available for purchase.
