Premier League powerhouses Chelsea FC are looking to set a new standard in their new gold third kits for 2022-23, made by Nike.
The kits were introduced on Saturday, October 8. They’re a solid shade of light gold, with orange and black trim around the sleeve cuffs. “The design is inspired by the idea of ‘Chelsea Smart,’” the club’s website reads. “It’s when classic meets cutting-edge, and that’s when we thrive. It’s the perfect recipe to create the future of west London fashion.”
The back collar insert on the Nike shirt is solid black. The Nike logo, club crest and sponsor logo all appear in monochromatic black.
“Historically, a yellow jersey has featured frequently in our change strips and this sesame colour is an elevation of that colourway — so familiar but new!” the website goes on to say.
SSC NAPOLI – Champions League
Italian Serie A side SSC Napoli made a splash in the UEFA Champions League last week, debuting a new change kit in a 6-1 romp over Dutch side AFC Ajax on Tuesday, October 4. The Champions League kit uses the same template as their home and away kits, but brings in dark grey as the main base colour. The front of the jersey features an embossed pattern of small club badges. The raglan sleeves gradate from the club’s signature light blue to dark grey.
ATALANTA – Anniversary Kit
Fellow Italian side Atalanta are celebrating their 115th anniversary in style with a one-off kit made by Joma. The kit was launched on Tuesday, October 4, and will be worn in their home Serie A match against US Sassuolo on Saturday, October 15; the club’s 115th birthday falls two days later. The shirt is covered in halftone gradients that fade between Atalanta’s traditional colours of blue and black. The V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs are blue with black stripes through the center.
The shirt features a special 115th anniversary patch on the left sleeve with the date of the anniversary game and the names of the two clubs playing in it.
Traditionally, Atalanta produces a special one-off jersey for a Christmas match each season, with the game-worn shirts auctioned off for charity. (There was controversy last season after it looked like the skyline of the city of Turin was used on the Christmas jersey instead of the skyline of the city of Bergamo, where Atalanta are based.) This season, due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Atalanta won’t have be able to host a Christmas match, but the game-worn anniversary match shirts will be auctioned off instead.
