El Paso Chihuahuas mark Padres NLDS win with Rally Goose cap

For years, it may have seemed that the rivalry between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres was one that only fans of the Padres were aware of. That changed with San Diego’s unlikely victory over the heavily favored Dodgers in last week’s National League Divisional Series.

Pundits attribute the Padres series win to quality starting pitching and timely hitting, but others believe the credit goes to a goose that landed on the field in the 8th inning of game 2 in Los Angeles. The Padres led the game at the time, and held on to win that game and the next two back in San Diego.

The Padres’ Triple-A affiliate, the El Paso Chihuahuas, seized on the moment to unveil a Rally Goose cap, with a Brandiose logo that emulates the bird’s defiant stance. The Chihuahuas posted a link to the New Era cap, which quickly crashed from a flood of clicks, and now directs to a page devoted to the MiLB-Marvel partnership.

The goose was captured and released during a play stoppage, and is now free to recreate on the beaches and golf courses of southern California for the rest of the postseason (just like the Dodgers).
