Predators, Blue Jackets New Reverse Retro Jerseys Leak

It was inevitable that on the cusp of its league-wide unveiling, some 2022-2023 NHL Reverse Retro jerseys would begin to leak out.

Today that honour goes to two of the NHL’s millennial franchises, the Columbus Blue Jackets and Nashville Predators.

Starting with the older of the two clubs, the Nashville Predators 2022-23 Reverse Retro jersey was leaked to Twitter by @LBJerseys; take a look…

NASHVILLE PREDATORS

The design is a modern re-colouring of the Predators’ mustard third jersey originally worn from 2001-02 until 2006-07, with some minor changes to accommodate for the Adidas Adizero jersey cut.

The logo appears to be the same; even the extra orange and blue colouring remain despite the modern Preds branding stripping away all their extra colours. The original shoulder patches (a fossilized sabre-toothed tiger skull) are also carried over to this design, as are the silver, navy blue, and white striping patterns on each sleeve and around the waist.

The most significant change is the shift away from the original “mustard” colour of the base, replaced with the current, brighter Predators gold. The collar is also changed from squared off to the usual 2022 collar style; as mentioned earlier, this is due to the limitations of the Adidas Adizero jersey cut.

COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS

The Columbus Blue Jackets also jumped back to a recoloured version of an early 2000s alternate jersey, and we’ve got an early look at it thanks to a Tweet from @Icethetics.

Worn originally from 2003 to 2007, the Blue Jackets third jersey of the era featured the then-new (now long-used primary) logo of the Ohio state banner wrapped around a star in the shape of the letter “C” on the chest. The “CBJ” mark on one shoulder, the alternate union cap logo on the other, with three white stars on each sleeve.

The 2022-23 Reverse Retro edition duplicates this design rather faithfully, with the same shoulder patches, jersey crest, and striping style but drops the black stripes down each sleeve in favour of their modern Steel Blue.

You’ll notice with both the Predators and Blue Jackets leaked uniforms that the teams will be wearing a Reverse Retro version of the NHL’s league logo, the modern shield coloured in the throwback black and orange colours. A nice touch!

Stay tuned later today as teams are expected to release a set of teaser images on the eve of the full unveiling, which is rumoured for tomorrow morning.
