The New Orleans Saints announced this week they will wear their 1967-68 throwback uniforms for the first time since 2016 during Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, which kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.
The uniforms mimic what the Saints wore at home in their first two seasons as a franchise, with a simplified fleur-de-lis logo on the helmet, black jersey with old gold numbers and a traditional striping pattern on the sleeves, old gold pants and socks that match the sleeves.
The only significant difference between the original and throwback is the color of the helmet, as New Orleans continues to wear Vegas gold instead of old gold. This, of course, is the result of the Saints choosing to introduce a black alternate design as their second helmet this season.
New Orleans has worn the throwback uniforms six times previously, including wins over the Tampa Buccaneers and New York Giants in 1994, a win over the Buccaneers in 2002, wins over the Buccaneers and Houston Texans in 2011 and a loss to the Detroit Lions in 2016.
That’s not to be confused with the Saints’ Color Rush uniforms, which have been worn every season since 2016, as those were based upon their road look during those same seasons but feature white pants and socks to achieve the promotion’s desired monochrome effect.
That said, this marks the sixth different combination for New Orleans this season, including the Color Rush set with the new black helmets, all-white with gold helmets, all-black with a gold helmets, black jerseys with gold pants and helmets and white jerseys with black pants and gold helmets.
