The matchup for Super Bowl LVIII will be set on Sunday as the Baltimore Ravens host the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game and the Detroit Lions travel to San Francisco to take on the 49ers for the NFC title.
With that said, we’re taking a brief historical look at both matchups below:
Kansas City Chiefs at Baltimore Ravens
3 p.m. ET on CBS
The Ravens improved to 3-0 all-time in the playoffs while wearing black helmets, purple jerseys and black pants with a 34-10 win over the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round.
This will be the first time that combination has been in the conference championship, however, as their four previous AFC title game appearances have come on the road.
The Chiefs, meanwhile, will be making their sixth conference championship appearance in as many years, though this marks their first away from Arrowhead Stadium since 1993.
They have only worn red helmets, white jerseys and red pants in the conference championship once before, a 31-7 win over the Buffalo Bills to advance to the first AFL–NFL World Championship Game (Super Bowl I).
Detroit Lions at San Francisco 49ers
6:30 p.m. ET on FOX
The 49ers will play in their record 19th NFC Championship Game on Sunday, where they are 4-7 while wearing gold helmets, red jerseys and gold pants like they’ll be wearing this evening.
That includes nine home games and two road matchups with the Dallas Cowboys. That obviously doesn’t include 1994-95, when they wore throwback uniforms that included white pants as part of the NFL’s 75th anniversary.
The Lions, on the other hand, will be playing in the NFC Championship Game for just the second time, joining a 41-10 loss at the Washington Redskins to end the 1991 season, when they wore their home uniforms on the road.
This time, they’ll wear gray helmets, white jerseys and white pants, a combination that has brought them success this season with a 4-1 record, which would have been 5-0 without a botched call against the Cowboys.
