The Big Ten earlier this month unveiled new logos for the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, marking the first update for the conference’s postseason championship in eight years.
“The new identities continue the commitment of the conference to be bold and innovative while honoring its historic basketball traditions,” the Big Ten said in a press release.
The logo combines the lines on a basketball with the conference’s color palette, with eight white points and eight light blue points, perhaps as a nod to the 16 teams that will be part of the conference when UCLA and USC join the conference in 2024-25.
It’s seemingly an evolution of the previous pennant/pinwheel logos, which featured the color schemes of each Big Ten institution. The last update came during the 2014-15 season, which was the first tournament after Maryland and Rutgers joined the conference.
This year’s Big Ten women’s basketball tournament will take place at Target Center in Minneapolis from March 1-5, while the men’s tournament will be played at United Center in Chicago from March 8-12.
This marks the first time in its 30-year history the women’s tournament will be played in the Twin Cities, while the men’s tournament returns to the Windy City for the 11th time in 26 years.
