NBA superstar LeBron James showed his love for another team across the pond by wearing a new co-branded shirt this week.
James debuted a new jersey collaboration with Nike and Liverpool FC prior to his Los Angeles Lakers’ home game against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday evening at the Crypto.com Arena. James has been a minority owner of Liverpool since 2011, and has since worn several Nike sneaker models with LFC-inspired colorways. But this is the first time he and the club have collaborated on a jersey.
The shirt is mostly black, with red pinstripes down the front and sleeves. In between the pinstripes are tonal black stripes with two alternating acronyms: “YNWA” for Liverpool’s club motto/anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” and “SFG” for LeBron’s own mantra, “Strive for Greatness.”
The LFC crest, Nike swoosh logo and LeBron’s personal logo appear on the front of the jersey in red with white outlines.
At the same time, James also debuted a new Liverpool-inspired version of Nike’s Air Max 1 sneaker. It’s mostly teal — a colour LFC has used as an accent colour on recent home kits and a main colour on recent change kits — with black and red accents.
The back of the left sneaker features an “SFG” monogram, while the back of the right sneaker has a “YWNA” monogram.
There’s been no announcement about when the LeBron x Liverpool jersey and sneakers will go on sale to the public or what other items might be included in the collaboration. But with James wearing them in public, it likely won’t be long until they hit store shelves.
