Fans of Major League Soccer side Charlotte FC got a sneak peek at their club’s new away kit this week.
A photo of the purported new away kit popped up on Twitter on Wednesday, February 8. It was initially posted by user @mastjmw and then signal-boosted by @Topbin90.
The photo shows a predominantly purple kit, with a pattern of embossed crowns isolated from the Charlotte FC crest all over. The Adidas logo, club crest and sponsor logo are all rendered in monochromatic bright blue. The collar and sleeve cuffs have thin blue and pink striping around them.
The Adidas shoulder stripes are pink with thin blue borderlines, similar to those found the Italian national teams’ new Adidas kits. The striping that runs down each side and across the back hem is pink.
It’s difficult to tell if the jersey in the photo is a replica or authentic; if it’s a replica, there could be additional details on the authentic version. The jock tag on the bottom left corner of the jersey is also not visible in the photo.
Charlotte FC began playing in MLS in 2022. Their home kit, which will carry forward into 2023, has a bright blue body — the same shade used by the NFL’s Carolina Panthers since both teams are owned by billionaire hedge fund manager David Tepper — with white sleeves and black Adidas shoulder stripes.
The club’s away kit for 2022 was black with mint green accents, including a wave pattern woven into the collar and cuffs. This color scheme played on Charlotte’s “Mint City” nickname, which comes from the fact that the city was home to the first United States branch mint, which opened in 1838.
Charlotte FC opens its 2023 MLS season on Saturday, February 25, when they host the New England Revolution at Bank of America Stadium.
