As the new Major League Season gets closer, more and more new kits are getting leaked online. This time, it’s Real Salt Lake’s new secondary jersey.
A photo of the jersey was posted to Twitter by user @Inaki_Soto1 on Thursday, February 9. It shows a yellow kit with an embossed pattern of diamonds with tapering lines that alternate directions.
The collar has red trim all the way around and navy blue trim on the sides that leads into the navy blue Adidas shoulder stripes. The sleeve cuffs mirror the collar, with broad navy blue stripes and narrower red stripes.
The sponsor logo and Adidas logo on the chest are navy blue, as are the stripes that run down the sides and across the back hem. A red shape in the state of Utah with “EST. 05” inside appears in the jock tag position.
The RSL kit posted on Thursday is likely the authentic version of the kit. There is a star above the club crest on the left chest commemorating RSL’s MLS Cup win in 2009; championship stars do not appear on MLS replica kits. And the triangular tag on the bottom right hem is Adidas’s new authentic tag; it’s also seen on the authentic version of Adidas national team kits like Italy’s, which were released in mid-January.
@Inaki_Soto1 mentioned in the replies to his initial tweet that he found the kit on sale at a Dick’s Sporting Goods in Layton, Utah, and it was priced somewhere between $130 and $150 US.
Real Salt Lake haven’t worn a yellow outfield kit since the 2011 season. In 2010 and 2011, they had a yellow third kit to go along with their red primary and white secondary kits — a combination they had kept constant since joining MLS in 2005.
RSL’s 2022 primary kit will carry over into 2023. It’s solid red, with blue, yellow and red stripes around the collar and cuffs. The jersey is inspired by the anthem “Believe” written by Branden Steineckert, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2022.
Real Salt Lake opens its 2023 MLS campaign on Saturday, February 25, when they host expansion franchise St. Louis City SC at America First Field.
