Scotland FA Give Sneak Peek at 150th Anniversary Kit with Commemorative Crest

To mark their 150th anniversary in 2023, the Scottish Football Association has given fans a sneak peek at a special edition national team jersey featuring a commemorative crest.

Last week, the Scotland National Team’s Twitter account posted a photo of the jersey with the caption “Coming soon…” The photo shows a dark blue jersey with a commemorative crest on the left chest featuring a gold lion rampart (more information on the crest below). The broad crew neck collar is white, while the sleeve cuffs are white with narrow blue stripes running around them.

The Adidas logo on the chest and shoulder stripes are the same shade of dark blue as the rest of the jersey so they blend in. The current Scotland national team’ crest is printed in gold inside the collar, along with the years “1873” and “2023.”

No shorts or socks are seen in the photo. It’s not yet clear when more details about the jersey will be announced or when it will go on sale to the public.

The 150th anniversary crest was launched in September 2022. It won’t replace the current Scotland national team crest on a permanent basis, but it will be used in various applications throughout 2023, including social media platforms and special edition kits.

The commemorative crest features a gold lion rampant on a blue shield with tonal thistles in the background. The shield is bordered in gold and navy blue. A gold circle runs behind the shield, with “150 YEARS” in white at the top and the years “1873” and “2023” on either side of the shield.

The first-ever international friendly match recognized by FIFA took place on November 30, 1872, which also happened to be St. Andrew’s Day. It was contested at the West of Scotland Cricket Club’s grounds at Hamilton Crescent in Partick, Scotland, an area in the city of Glasgow. Scottish players from Queen’s Park FC and a team of English players played to a 0-0 draw in front of around 4,000 spectators. The Scottish FA was formed the following March, again with Queen’s Park taking the lead in organizing it.

Scotland and England will square off again in a special 150th Anniversary Heritage Match on September 12 at Hampden Park in Glasgow.
